Alprazolam was first patented in 1971 and approved in the United States for medical use in 1981. Alprazolam is also available as the generic medicine. Alprazolam belongs to the class of schedule IV drugs of controlled medicine. Alprazolam has a high tendency for abuse and habit forming. According to 2017 report of the United States, it was the 21st most prescribed medicine of the United States. Alprazolam drug is not soluble in water but soluble in ethanol and methanol but doesn’t try alprazolam with alcohol because it may worsen the effect of the drug and cause severe problems.
Alprazolam is used in short term treatment of anxiety disorder and panic disorder. Alprazolam belongs to the class of drugs called benzodiazepines. All benzodiazepines group drugs act directly on the brain and central nervous system to produce calming effects and help in getting relief from anxiety and panics. The main function of alprazolam is to enhance the effect of certain chemicals called (GABA) gamma-aminobutyric acid which is used to reduce the excitement of our brain. Alprazolam is also used for nausea and vomiting which is caused due to chemotherapy. Alprazolam is very effective in providing relief to moderate to severe anxiety and panic attacks. In the US it is approved by the FDA that alprazolam is used in the treatment of panic disorder and anxiety disorder with or without agoraphobia.
